Duration of activity:  May and December 2019

  • Revise FMD control strategy based on evaluation of FMD control in recent years (analysis outbreak investigation reports, NSP sero-surveys, risk-factor analysis)

  • Support finalization of Standard Operating Procedures for Outbreak investigation and Biosecurity

  • Support reviewing of curriculum of final-year students regarding FMD and other TADs

TRAINING OF OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION LEADERS

Real-time training on FMD outbreak investigation

Duration of activity: since 2017-2018

Project aims to improve the capacity of central, regional and local level veterinarians in Mongolia to conduct appropriate disease outbreak investigations, in particular for the priority diseases of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), peste des petits ruminants (PPR) and the capripox viruses.

The project consists of three phases. The first phase (September 2017) in which a core team of “Outbreak Investigation Leaders” were trained. These leaders will be expected to develop a training workshop on routine outbreak investigation for delivery to audiences of local veterinarians (April 2018, see blog post here), and also, following further advanced training provided in phase two (December 2017, see blog post here), provide leadership on outbreak investigation in Mongolia.

TRAINING OF LEADERS TO TRAIN CAHWs ON FMD PREVENTION AND CONTROL

Contractor: Massay University - New Zealand

Country: Lao PDR and Myanmar

Beneficiaries: Staff  of DAH and LBVD of Lao PDR and Myanmar respectively

being trained as trainers to train township and district veterinary officers to train VVWs and CAHWs on FMD prevention and control

The objective is to train a cadre of 6 (Myanmar) and 4 (Lao) English speaking veterinary officers (who understand the reality of district-level and township-level animal health officers) to train district-level and township-level officers in how Community Animal Health Workers and farmers can most effectively prevent/control FMD

 

This training was followed-up with technical backstopping in Lao PDR at time trained cadre cascaded their training to district veterinary officers and to village veterinary workers.

REAL-TIME TRAINING COURSE 

Contractor: EuFMD

Areas:  Nepal

Direct beneficiaries: Australian and New Zealand practitioners, farmers and policy makers. Nepalese veterinairans.

 

Duration of activity: since 2012

 

Real-time training courses are interactive, with practical group work, field activities and discussion replacing traditional lecture style teaching. Pre-course e-learning are provided to help prepare trainees and enhance knowledge retention. The courses are led by international experts with a wealth experience in both FMD and training.

 

Courses last one week and take place in countries with endemic FMD, currently Turkey, 

Kenya and Nepal. EuFMD works in partnership with the host country veterinary services 

and provides assistance and training for local FMD control as part of the Real Time programme.

TRAINING ON OUTBREAK INVESTIGATION OF FOOT- AND- MOUTH DISEASE

Duration of activity:  2014

 

A two-days training on FMD outbreak investigation for 55 Egyptian veterinarians.

Training was conducted together with experts from World Reference Laboratory, Pirbright in Engeland and the Danish Veterinary and Food Adminstration.
